The artificial ones arise in response to the need to obtain long and resistant filaments to weave quality textile materials. They are distinguished from synthetic fibers in that the raw material is a product of chemical synthesis.1 Some authors use "chemical fibers" to refer to artificial and synthetic fibers as a whole, as opposed to natural fibers.2 The first artificial fibers tried to imitate the silkworm that produces a continuous, fine, elastic and resistant filament. The French engineer Hilaire de Chardonnet was the first to obtain what he called "artificial silk" or "Chardonnet silk" in 1884, and presented it at the Universal Exposition in Paris in 1889. Artificial fibers are classified into three groups according to the raw material from which they are obtained: cellulose, protein and alginic. The group of cellulosic fibers is the most important of the three.
